Welcome to the HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS E-LABORATORY MANUAL (1st Edition)

In 2009, the WHO produced a  Human Papillomavirus laboratory manual   Human papillomavirus laboratory manual, First Edition, 2009 to assist in establishing the laboratory support required for implementation and monitoring of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programmes. Since then, both HPV vaccination and HPV-based cervical screening have become key pillars of the WHO strategy for global elimination of cervical cancer.

The Global Network of National HPV Reference Laboratories has therefore produced an updated HPV Laboratory e-Manual as a comprehensive and interactive guide for professionals working with HPV research and HPV-based cancer control. The manual covers essential topics, including:

  1. Introduction

  2. HPV Types

  3. Laboratory Quality Assurance

  4. Collection and Handling of Specimens for HPV Testing

  5. Nucleic Acid Extraction

  6. HPV Detection and Typing

  7. HPV Serology – ELISA

  8. HPV International Standards and Secondary Standards

  9. Data Management

  10. International and National HPV Reference Centers

Each section is designed to provide up-to-date methodologies, protocols, and best practices to ensure high-quality results in HPV testing and research. With interactive features and real-time updates, this manual enhances laboratory workflows, supports precision, and keeps you informed of the latest advancements in the field.
