The following course gives an oversight of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) taxonomy and describes in detail the following topics:
- – HPV classification
- – Officially established HPV types and non-official isolates
- – Risk association
- – Reference clone repository
- – Putative novel HPV types
At the end of the course, the student should be able to: classify an HPV isolate, know the risk association of different HPV types with cancer, understand the importance of using reference sequences and controls in HPV research and diagnostics, as well as know the steps needed to make a putative novel HPV isolate an officially established HPV type.
