The Carina Eklund Symposium: 30 years of HPV research

In April 2019, it has been 30 years since Project Coordinator Carina Eklund started working at Professor Joakim Dillner´s research group at Karolinska Insitute. At that time, viruses causing cancer was not a mainstream issue. Thirty years later, they are well on their way to use HPV as a target for global elimination of cervical cancer. To commemorate the occasion, Professor Joakim Dillner arranged a One-day symposium dedicated to the issue.

The Carina Eklund Symposium took place on April 4th, at Karolinska Institutet, in Stockholm, to celebrate 30 years of dedication, hard work and excellence on HPV.

eLearning course on Human Papillomavirus

Nordic eScience has created a youtube channel (www.youtube.com/NordiceScienceHPV) where users can find different webinars and electures about HPV.

Special attention is given to the eLearning course on Human Papilloma Virus – from molecular biology to global health.

In this internet-based learning course, insights and knowledge of these topics are gained:

– HPV infection and the burden of HPV-associated diseases

– Methods for detection of HPV and the bioinformatics methods for HPV classification.

– Best practice for organized cervical screening.

– Assessment of internationally standardized quality indicators of cervical screening

– Validation of results from screening and vaccination, and their implications on the cancer burden.
